1 arrested in Redding DUI collision

A man is in custody Wednesday after he collided with another vehicle head-on while intoxicated. The suspect’s passenger suffered minor injuries. The other driver was not injured as a result of the accident.

Redding Police officers were called to the scene of an accident around 8:08 a.m. on June Street near Parson’s Junior High School in Redding.

First responders found Joseph Decarlo, 33, of Redding, had suffered a major laceration after he drifted into oncoming traffic in his 1991 Toyota Camry while transporting his unidentified 12-year0old passenger to school. The other vehicle, a 1989 GMC Sierra truck, driven by Robert Alexander, 53 of Redding.

Further investigation revealed Decarlo was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident and he was arrested for suspicion of DUI.

Decarlo was later booked into Shasta County Jail for driving under the influence of drugs and DUI with injury. Also, Decarlo had a previous conviction for driving on a suspended license. His license was expired at the time of this collision.
