The Oroville Hospital will pass out bags filled with goodies to young hospital patients due to the efforts of two 10-year-old cancer survivors. Natalie Stampanoni survived non-hodgkin’s lumphoma and Breenan Brockman beat leukemia, according to Oroville Hospital.

The two youngsters wanted to put together bags for kids battling cancer or other illnesses to stave off boredom at the hospital. Together they named their small collaboration “Fight with Fun Bags”. Each bag the two will hand out contains toys, coloring books, stuffed animals, stress balls, and a colored bracelet signifying the kind of cancer each young patient is fighting.

Stampanoni and Brockman first met at a Make-A-Wish camp in Florida. According to the hospital, Brockman spotted Stampanoni and reportedly told his mom, “Hey, I know that girl!” It turned out both attended Golden Hills Elementary School in Oroville together and eventually became friends. Before last Thanksgiving, the two were talking with their parents about ways they could help children going through cancer treatment when the light bulb for the fun bag idea switched on. Both of their mothers quickly gathered items for the fun bags and they children went right to work stuffing them.

Kathy Nehl, Patient Experience Liaison and Certified Recreational Therapist for the hospital, accepted the bags on behalf of Oroville Hospital.

“We are touched, and extremely proud to be associated with Fight with Fun Bags,” said Nehl. “We can’t wait to start passing them out to the children.”
