Redding police are currently searching for a suspect they consider armed and dangerous after he fired shots at an officer. 35-year-old James Staggs was a passenger inside a gold Subaru Legacy that failed to pull over for expired tags on Girvan Road late last night. The driver, 35-year-old Alisha McKinney continued onto Pernie Trail where she came to an abrupt stop. Staggs then exited the car and ran from the scene firing an undisclosed amount of shots from a handgun in the general direction of the officer.
A short time later, the owner of the car, 31-year-old Brookean Thompson, called reporting her car stolen. After questioning Thompson admitted to loaning the car to McKinney.
Both Thompson and Mckinney were arrested and booked into Shasta County Jail.
If you know the whereabouts of Staggs you are asked to call the Redding Police Department.
