Around 6:30 a.m. this morning an owner of a Honda Prelude reported his vehicle stolen at the 900 block of Ivy Street. Approximately 30 minutes later, Chico Police pulled over a vehicle matching description near W. 1st Avenue and Warner St. The suspect fled the traffic stop, but the pursuit was called off immediately due to safety concerns of early morning traffic on the Esplanade. At that point the suspect was last seen near First Street and Palm Avenue.
At approximately 7:04 a.m. the stolen vehicle was located unoccupied on the side of the road near the Immediate Care Center on the corner of Memorial Way and Vallombrosa Avenue. A witness told police they may have seen the suspect fled into Annie’s Glenn. Police soon detained a man matching the description of the suspect near the 1-Mile Pool, and an infield line-up was conducted by the officer who originally pulled over the suspect earlier this morning. The suspect was positively identified and arrested.
The suspect was later identified as 35-year-old Jeremy Hunter. Hunter is a parolee, but no information on his previous arrest was available. He was booked into Butte County jail on two felony charges. Chico Police believe neither alcohol or drugs were not a factor in the incident.
