Palermo body identified, deputies ruling death as a homicide

The Butte County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of the victim who was found on the 7000 block of Gene Lane in Palermo.

The man has been identified as Lewis Raymond Newton, 43, who was from Oroville. Deputies are not releasing further information regarding the motive in his death.

Investigators say Newton was shot and killed, and they are ruling this death a homicide.

Officers received the call on Friday, Oct. 11 at 5:30 p.m. of a report of deceased man; when deputies arrived to the residence they discovered Newton’s body.

 Sheriff’s detectives are still conducting the investigation.
