The driver of the green mini cooper who was killed after crashing into a tree on Vallombrosa Avenue near Lialac Lane in the early hours of News Year’s Day has been identified as 27-year-old Adam James Taylor of Paradise.

The Chico Police Department, who released Taylor’s identity today, is asking if anyone saw the collision occur just after 3 a.m. Wednesday morning, was with Taylor prior to the collision, knew where he was coming from or where he was going to contact the department.

According to a department press release, Taylor’s green Mini Cooper was traveling at a high rate of speed through the intersection at Lilac Lane when it went into the south edge of the roadway and struck a tree head-on. When officers arrived they found the car on fire. The Chico Fire Department soon arrived to extinguish the flames and rescue Taylor, who was the sole occupant. Despite their efforts, Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.

We are working to confirm if Taylor is the same man who was hit by a drunk driver on the Skyway in 2009.
