Another violent robbery on a Chico bike path has those who regularly walk the trail fearing for their safety. Just this last weekend a 19-year-old male and a female friend were walking on the path near north Cedar Road along the railroad tracks when a group of five to seven males jumped him. The female ran off as the group of male suspects began punching and kicking him. They took his wallet, cell phone, pants and shoes.
Sharon Demeyer is a teacher at Chico State and though she rides the bike path everyday to get to and from work she hasn't had any encounters such as a robbery. Even college football players who are big and strong say they still watch their backs constantly as they walk down what many call the rape trail.
19-year old John Staton was arrested Sunday morning for the robbery. Two other suspects who are black males remain at large.
