Action News Now has learned today from the Butte Superior Court Brett Nichols was not fired, but resigned from his clerk position in light of the investigation. We retract our previous report which stated Nichols was fired.
A former Butte County Superior Court employee is in the Sacramento County Jail tonight facing federal child porn charges.
Although this is a federal case, Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey confirms that Bret Allan Nichols, of Paradise, was arrested Monday. The arrest follows weeks of investigation by The Department of Homeland Security and the Justice Department which reportedly included a search of Nichols’ work computer and home computer.
Authorities allege Nichols patronized a live streaming incest website involving a woman committing sex acts on her young daughter. It was a tip by police in Denmark that ultimately led authorities to Nichols, who has now been fired from his courthouse clerk position.
The website news10.net reports that a search of Nichols’ Paradise home also turned up videos looking up the skirts of women at the Butte County Courthouse and at retail locations around the county. He now faces charges of possession and manufacturing of child pornography.
