For the companies this is the best time to assign work because they don’t have to deal with rain and wind getting in the way.

But for construction workers this means standing outside in the hot weather for hours.

So Action News Now reporter Elizabeth Zelidon stopped and spoke with one employee on Wednesday to ask what he does to beat the summer heat.

“We just drink a lot of water. Try to stay in the shade whenever we can take breaks drink a lot of gatorade. And just stay hydrated out here," said Cliff Clement from Ward's Construction.

When Action News Now did further research, one article from the Safety and Health Magazine says 17 construction workers died in 2015 because of heat related conditions.

They add ways to stay safe are exactly what Cliff said wear light clothing, drink plenty of water, avoid caffeine and stay in the shade.
