Showers & thunderstorms return for your mid week forecast

Active and cooler weather is on the way for the middle of your work week.

Get ready for more active weather, and a decent cooling trend across Northern California for the next few days. We are dry and mostly clear for the start of your Tuesday morning, but more clouds will filter into the region today. There will be a much better chance for showers and thunderstorms across the mountains today, and even a chance for some active weather spilling down into the foothills and the valley. Temperatures have dipped into the mid 50's for most of the valley overnight, and into the 40's to low 50's in the mountains early today. Winds are again starting out of the East this morning, but will end up out of the South to 15mph this afternoon. The potential for showers and thunderstorms will return to higher elevations after 11am this morning, and will then ramp up into the afternoon hours. The potential for showers and thunderstorms in the valley will hold off until mid afternoon, but will linger into this evening. Valley areas have anywhere from a 10 to 30 percent chance for showers returning this afternoon. High temperatures are projected to end up in the low 80's in the valley this afternoon, and in the mid 60's to low 70's in most mountain areas. The active weather will wrap up again late tonight, and will then return again on Wednesday.

A decent dip in temperatures and a better chance for widespread showers and thunderstorms will return to Northern California on Wednesday. Wednesday morning will more than likely look a lot like this morning. Temperatures will be in a similar range, and dry weather is expected for the start of the day. A better chance for widespread showers and thunderstorms will be on the way for your Wednesday afternoon, and temperatures will end up around 5 degrees cooler than this afternoon. That leaves the valley areas with highs in the mid 70's on Wednesday, and mountain areas topping out in the 60's. Wednesday looks like the most likely day for widespread active weather, before the chance for showers and thunderstorms become limited to the mountains again for the end of the week. Temperatures will rebound back into the high 70's in the valley on Thursday, and then back into the mid 80's on Friday. Sunny skies will return for the end of your work week in the valley, but the potential for showers will linger in the mountains.

Another system moving into the Southwest for the start of next week will help to bring showers and thunderstorms back into the mountains for the start of next week, but valley areas are currently looking dry on Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will stay end up in the low 80's in the valley for the start of next week.
