ANDERSON, Calif. - The Anderson Police Department on Saturday arrested a man accused of stealing from the Anderson Grocery Outlet and then running away from an employee.

According to APD, an officer was in the area of Pinon Avenue and Ponderosa Drive when he noticed a Grocery Outlet employee fighting with a man in the middle of Highway 273.

The arriving officer arrested Raymond A. Nielson, 36, of Anderson without further incident.

Authorities learned that Nielson tried to steal alcohol from the store and was confronted by an employee, said APD.

He then ran and left the store, which then made an employee give chase in an attempt to detain the suspect.

The employee caught up with Nielson at Highway 273, where a fight broke out, but the suspect ultimately surrendered when an officer arrived. Nielson was arrested for robbery and was booked into the Shasta County Jail.
