Get that umbrella handy, and grab a jacket before you head out the door this morning. Active weather is continuing for the start of your work week, and conditions have the potential to become more severe today. Valley showers and thunderstorms are likely today, and snow showers are likely in the mountains. Thunderstorms may be accompanied by small hail, which could result in major travel impacts. A Winter Weather Advisory will stay in place through 7pm tonight for areas above 4500' in the Sierra. Snow levels will be down to around 3000' in the Northern Mountains today, and down to around 3500' in the Sierra. Temperatures have dipped into the mid 40's for the valley overnight, and in to the 20's to 30's in the mountains this morning. Winds are expected to be between 10 to 15mph out of the South today. Thunderstorms will be possible through the day in the valley, and we cannot rule out the potential for a tornado developing today. Temperatures will end up in the mid 50's for the valley this afternoon, and mountain areas are mostly expected to top out in the low to mid 40's. Showers will persist into this evening, but should taper off by around midnight.

Dry and slightly warmer weather is on the way for your Tuesday. Skies will be mostly sunny, and valley areas will climb into the mid 60's for your Tuesday afternoon. The break from the rain is expected to be short lived, as another wet system will bring more rain and mountain snow to the region on Wednesday. Wednesday will more than likely start out dry, with showers returning for the afternoon and evening. Some showers will persist into early Thursday, but should wind down by the middle of the day. Temperatures will climb back into the low 70's on Thursday afternoon.

Clearing skies, and warmer temperatures will return on Friday, and will last through your upcoming weekend. High temperatures are projected to top out in the high 70's on Friday, and then in the low 80's for the valley this weekend. Skies will be sunny for both Saturday and Sunday. There will be another chance for wet weather on the way next week, but models are currently split on what to expect in your long range forecast.
