Chico, Calif.-- Major planning is underway to relocate an important Butte County Office that is used by hundreds in the Chico community.

With its more than 100 employees, next fall, the Butte County Department of Employment and Social Services will be moving from its Carmichael Drive location to North Valley Plaza on East Avenue where the old Mervyn's department store used to be.

The county says with the lease ending next year, the county is able to look for a better location that suites the public needs better.

And according to a county staff report, the county expects to save several thousand dollars a month on rent.

Chico resident, Megan Jones, says this office has made a major difference in her life.

"They help you look for jobs they help you get your resume out there they give you a list of websites to look at and places that are available to hire, they have a program," said Jones.

In total, the relocation project cost is estimated to cost about 3.5 million dollars.
