The mobile app Next Door continues to grow in popularity throughout the north state, but there seems to be a misconception about how involved local police can be with each neighborhood's posts.
In Chico, over ten thousand people are signed into the virtual neighborhood watch app called Next Door, surpassing the Chico Police Department's goal.
Chico PD has a successful partnership with the app, but there seems to be one hiccup.
One of the limitations is the police department by design can't see the discussions within an individual neighborhood until there is an issue and someone reaches out to the police department that's when they can act on it.
In the past two years many people have assumed posting on the app will result in a police response, but that's not the case.
If nobody reaches out to the police department they don't know it's happening so it's important to call the police department or contact them when they see something suspicious.
If you haven't already downloaded the app, it’s highly recommended.
You have that immediate communication rather than having to walk down the street and knock on your neighbor’s door you can send an email alert through next door to all your neighbors and let them know if there is a problem."
