That is just the nationwide average, in California the average gas price is expected to soar to just over $4 a gallon.

Petroleum analyst Patrick Dehaan says the increase is due to the trade conflict with China and fears over the military uprising in Syria.

Dehaan says the surge can also be traced back to “Opec.”

“A lot of the basis for higher prices today really can be tracked back to that 2016 agreement that ‘Opec’ made to cut oil production,” Dehaan said.

The average gas price statewide is $3.53 a gallon.

Prices are slightly below that across the North State averaging:

• $3.33 in Butte County
• $3.43 in Shasta County
• $3.30 in Sutter County
