CHP Warns Drivers After More Than 15 Deaths in the North State

With numerous fatal accidents in the north state multiple agencies are actively trying to increase safety on the roadways.

CHICO Calif.--The weather out there is wet and the roads are slick. It’s important when you get behind the wheel of a vehicle that you keep a mindset of safety and stay alert.

The California Highway Patrol wants to wants to warn drivers throughout Butte and Tehama, and Shasta Counties about road safety.

The agency has been responding to numerous fatal accidents in the recent weeks.

In 2018 our roads have been rather dangerous so far. In the past two weeks alone there have been two fatal accidents.

Over the weekend one man lost his life when his truck drifted into the median, then off the highway to the ground below Highway 99 at East 5th Street in Chico.

On March 9th another man lost his life in an accident at Anita Road and Highway 99.

Since the start of the year Oroville CHP reports seven fatal accidents, Red Bluff is investigating five, and the Chico CHP division says four accidents have claimed lives.

Ongoing efforts across several agencies are focusing on drivers and the safety of the roads.

Caltrans District Two in Shasta County in striving to reduce the number of wrong-way accidents by adding red reflective markers on the roadways.

In Chico the Police Department has re-launched a long-awaited traffic division focused on roadway safety.

The Police Chief hopes that increased education in the community will have a ripple-down effect and will benefit motorist’s throughout the region.

CHP says that many of the traffic accidents they respond to involve speeding, unsafe passing over double-yellow lines and driving under the influence.
