CHICO - More than seven fraternities got up early this morning to help make Chico look squeaky clean.
Students met at 10 Saturday morning at the Bell Memorial Union at Chico State where they were assigned into groups based on their fraternity membership.
Each group picked up trash at either Chestnut, Hazel, Ivy, Cherry and Orange streets, which if spelled out, apparently makes the word Chico.
A vice president within the Greek life says that he’s emotionally hurt when people litter like finding beer bottles in a bush.
"I picked it I took out the beer bottle and put it in my bag and then I saw another one and another one and another one and another one. I filled up three trash bags filled with vodka and beer bottles and it just broke my heart,” said Gage Northcutt, a vice president for community involvement in IFC.
The event wrapped up around noon Saturday and the Greek society hopes this will encourage people to volunteer.
According to Northcutt, this is the first event that involved this many fraternities all at the same time.
