Residents in Redding are concerned about a new scam involving someone asking for donations for painting street numbers. It involves a scammer leaving an anonymous car on your door asking for donations in advance to paint your curb numbers. This could allow thieves to take your money before you could get the service.
Police are warning people that not only is it dangerous to pay people for this service it is illegal as well. Sidewalks are owned and maintained by the city and any tapering could result in fines or legal action. Redding police chief roger Moore says “often times these folks will go into communities and neighborhoods and a lot of times they are scouting out to see who is home and who isn't and a lot of times they will come back late at night and strong arm people for money.” If you are contacted about these services you are asked to call police immediately and report the incident.
