Chico Police say a 72-year-old man accidentally ran over his wife near the apartment complex where they live off the 2000 block of Amanda Way.

Unfortunately, the wife passed away Thursday afternoon from the injuries sustained from the collision.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors.

Chico, Calif.--Neighbors are shocked tonight after a woman was hit, and then pinned, under a vehicle today in Chico.

This all happened at the entrance to the Sunridge Apartment complex at 2055 Amanda Way.

Chico police told Action News Now that around 11:30 this morning they responded to a call of a woman that was pinned underneath the vehicle after she was hit by it.

When police arrived to the scene minutes later they all lifted the car to be able to remove the woman and immediately began performing CPR.

The victim, police say, is in her late 60s. She and the driver both lived in the apartment complex.

Neighbors I spoke with identified the victim for me but police will not confirm it since this is an ongoing investigation.

We do know she was taken to Enloe and we have been working on finding out her condition.

Neighbors are hoping she pulls through.

"She's just a very good friend, and just would do anything for anyone...I mean she would give you the shirt off her back if she could," said Glenn Miller, the victim’s neighbor.

"Wow, from what I've gathered, that little lady. What a sweet soul, she's always around on foot walking around the complex," said Wendy Miller, a woman who lives in the complex.

Investigators were on scene for hours and said this not look intentional.

The driver of the car was not arrested and at this time will not face any charges since this is being investigated as an accident.
