Long time North State Radio and Television Personality Moriss Taylor has died, he was 93.
Taylor and his band played country music on "The Moriss Taylor Show" bthat aired for decades on KHSL TV starting in the 1950's. He recorded hundreds of shows. He also had a long running show on KHSL Radio, retiring in 2013 at age 88.
Taylor was known for his music, and for his corny jokes. Many, many local musicians performed on his show, which was the longest-running, "locally produced" television show in history.
Taylor, the father of six children, was honored with an Official Chico Icon Award by the "You Know You're from Chico When..." Facebook group in 2011.
He died peacefully, surrounded by friends and family.
An aide to Congressman Doug LaMalfa told Action News Now La Malfa is planning to deliver a speech honoring Taylor on the House Floor.
There is no word yet on when a memorial service is planned. Arrangements are being handled by Brusie Funeral Home in Chico.
