Pound for pound, Paradise high's Wyatt Wyckoff is one of the best prep wrestlers in the northern section and this summer, he's gearing up to showcase his talents on the national stage, but he still needs some help getting there.
Wyckoff, the reigning state runner-up in the 126-pound weight class, has been given the opportunity to wrestle in the Asics Cadet National Championships, set for July 12th through July 20th in Fargo, North Dakota.
The incoming junior received the invitation to the prestigious tournament thanks to a stellar prep career and glowing recommendations from two area coaches outside of Paradise, Chico high's Keith Rollins and Red Bluff's Dave Rottenberg.
All that's left now is to try to raise $1,400, which is what it takes to stay and compete in North Dakota for nine days. Rollins says the opportunity is well worth the expense."There will be every college coach in the land watching these kids and looking for potential recruits. We're just hoping he can get the money and there's people out that are excited about Wyatt and give him some donations," said Rollins.
"I wrestle a lot basically for paradise, so I wrestle for the community so I mean I don't want anyone to feel obligated but it'd be nice if they could help," said Wyckoff.
If you'd like to help send Wyatt, you can contact his mother Kristina at 530- 520-4219.
