A young cyclist pedaled his way to a couple impressive finishes at the USA Cycling Road National Championships in Madison, Wisconsin.

14-year-old Paradise resident Garrett Marking competed in the junior 15-to-16 year old division.

Marking made his mark in 2 events, a time trial and a road race.

In the 12-mile time trial, he finished in 18th place out of 95 riders, and in the 52-mile road race, Marking came in 15th place out of 100 riders.

He says he even surprised himself with his performance.

"I felt like I did a really really good job for the efforts I put in, I wasn't expecting the results I got so I ended up looking at the scoreboard and things like that and I was really happy, I was ecstatic," said Marking.

Marking will continue to train and compete this summer. Next week he heads down to the USA Cycling Developmental Camp at St. Mary's College in Moraga.
