Chico local Emily Azevedo is one step closer to competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Azevedo was among nine women chosen for the 2013-2014 U.S. women's national bobsled team, marking her 8th straight year with the club.

Over the next few months, Azevedo and the national team will race in a series of eight World Cup events before the season culminates with the Olympics.

The bobsled representatives for the Olympics will be chosen on January 20th.

"I'm excited and looking forward to this season. This is the first step towards a very long season so just trying to maintain focus and celebrate the small victories as well, so definitely going to be a fight to make it," said Azevedo.
