Some great news for Chico State, one of the most prestigious Division 2 track and field programs in the country.

Junior J Patrick Smith won the national championship in the decathlon for the 2nd straight year. Smith finished with a total of 7,612 points, setting a new facility record at Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo.

Elsewhere in the heptathlon, Chico State senior Robin Hannah took 4th place, and in the women's steeplechase, Chico State's Amy Schnittger finished in 4th as well. With their high marks, they both earned All-American status.
