Our latest Subway Scholar Athlete, Chico high's Morey Marshall, is putting up big numbers for the Panthers baseball team.
Every high school senior athlete hopes to go out with a bang in their final year.
The Chico high baseball team has 10 seniors looking for that memorable season, including Morey Marshall, who has a couple goals in mind.
"We also want to win league, but our main goal is win section," said Marshall.
It looks like the Panthers will be in contention for that crown.
They're 11-7, and 1st place in the Eastern Ahletic League with a 4-1 mark.
Marshall has led the way with a .425 batting average.
"This is prolly the most fun season I've had for baseball. Last season I didn't do well, I hit just over .250 and I was kind of slumping the whole year, but this year I'm just feeling good and it's just a lot of fun," said Marshall.
"I think it's his maturity, physical and emotional. He's fun loving as all get out, keeps it loose around here but then he knows when to get serious and focus on the game," said Chico high baseball coach Chip Carton.
That focus carries over into the classroom, where Marshall sports a 4.2 GPA.
That success has helped him write his ticket to college.
"My sister had a 4.0 all throughout high school and she expects a lot out of me and I needed those grades to get into Cal Poly for Engineering, it just helps for the future," said Marshall.
He's written his ticket to college, and if Marshall has it his way, he'll write his ticket to the section title game as well.
Morey Marshall is our Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week.
