The Yreka Police Department is urging citizens to stay out of Yreka Creek until further notice. This after a third body in eight months was found in the area.
According to investigators, July 17 a body was found roughly 500 feet from the South Yreka Fork in Yreka Creek. The responding officer found the body in "advanced stages of decomposition," according to a news release published by the department. The release also indicated foul play has not been ruled out. The victim's name has not been released.
Law enforcement will be sweeping Yreka Creek Thursday looking for clues. Officials have warned residents to stay out of the area.
Investigators say July 9, another body was found in the North Yreka Creek area near the 1000 block of Deer Creek Way. Identification of the body is still pending notification of kin. The death has been ruled a homicide.
In November 2012, investigators say Christopher Shafer's body was found in the North Yreka Creek area, close to the spot where the first body was located. Shafer's death has been ruled a homicide.
