After the completion of the Central Chico/Bidwell Park off-ramp, Caltrans will be closing the northbound Hwy 99 on-ramp from East 8th and 9th Streets at 9 p.m. tonight. The on-ramp will reopen by 7 a.m. Monday morning.
Caltrans also advises motorists to expect the number of northbound lanes of Hwy 99 to be reduced from two lanes to one around the construction area. During the 58-hour closure, drivers will be directed southbound on Hwy 99 to the East 20th Avenue exit then to the northbound on-ramp to get back onto Hwy 99. The southbound Hwy 99 exit to east 8th and 9th Streets will remain open. A pedestrian detour will also be established. Unexpected weather conditions or other events may prolong or reschedule the work, but you can follow updates on Twitter @D3PIO and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict 3.
A contractor will be rebuilding the freeway ramps as part of a $37.9 million project by Caltrans and the Butte County Association of Governments to construct new auxiliary lanes and sound walls on Highway 99 between East 1st Avenue and the Highway 32 junction. Completion is expected in 2014.
