Update (5:48 a.m.): Hospital officials confirmed that the victim, Rocky Hultz, is in critical condition.
The California Highway Patrol was called out to Upper Palermo Road near Ophir Road in Oroville around 12:15 a.m. this morning. Officers say Rocky Hultz, 31, was driving south on Upper Palermo when he drifted into the opposite lane and over-corrected. Hultz's Saturn sedan ended up wrapped around a tree, leaving him severely injured. Officers say Hultz was breathing at the time they arrived, but was unconscious. He was flown to Enloe Medical Center and his condition is unknown at this time. It is still yet to be confirmed, but authorities say that they strongly believe alcohol played a part in the accident. They were reportedly able to smell it on Hultz before he was taken the the hospital. The crash is still under investigation.
