The Chico Police Department is still searching for 25-year-old Michael Hubburt in connection to several vehicle thefts and resisting arrest.
At approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday night, the department received a call for a “suspicious circumstance” at A-1 Plumbing Supply located at 994 E. 20th Street in Chico. A citizen had noticed a male subject using bolt cutters to open the front gate of the business and was accompanied by a female. Officer Mike Rodden was near the call and was on scene in less than a minute. As Rodden arrived on scene he saw a grey Ford E 350 van leaving the lot of the business with the female subject closing the gate behind it. When the male subject saw Rodden approaching he fled the area with the female subject reportedly at a high speeds and headed west of East 20th Street.
Rodden followed the suspect vehicle as it entered an apartment complex at Rhodes Terrace. According to the department’s press release, the male jumped out of the driver’s seat of the van and fled. He was not located in the area. Officers recovered the van, which was undamaged, and arrested the female subject who was later identified as 20-year-old Rikki Philbrook of Chico. The male suspect was also identified as 25-year-old Michael Hubburt also of Chico.
Based on information revealed during the department’s investigation, the department was able to locate three vehicles previously reported as stolen. Two of them were Ford F-250s reported stolen earlier on Tuesday. One was located in an alley near 19th and C Streets and the other was found near Winco. The other vehicle, a Ford F 350 van, was stolen from the area of the Sierra Nevada Brewery on Monday and was found at the North Valley Plaza Mall.
Philbrook was eventually booked into the Butte County Jail. Hubburt is still at large and is wanted by the department for vehicle theft and resisting arrest. Anyone with information regarding Hubburt is encouraged to contact the department at 895-4911
