A traffic stop by made by Shasta County Sheriff’s Officers led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and jewelry taken during a residential burglary that occurred on Wednesday in Cottonwood.
At approximately 8:42pm last night Shasta County Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a vehicle stop for a code violation in the Rite Aid parking lot of the Westwood Village Center. While deputies were contacting the occupants of the vehicle, a second deputy noticed a suspicious subject, later identified as Carson Cook, standing next to a black Toyota Four-Runner. While deputies were talking to dispatch, Cook started walking away from the vehicle and dispatch confirmed the Toyota was stolen from the residence in Cottonwood.
Deputies caught up with Cook and he was detained as they investigated the stolen vehicle. A search of the Toyota revealed stolen jewelry and the other items that had been taken from the residence in Cottonwood. Deputies also found narcotics and numerous items of drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
Cook was arrested for two outstanding warrants, one for prowling and one for being in possession of a stolen vehicle. The theft investigation is ongoing.
