NEW DELHI (AP) - Officials now say 115 people died in a stampede on a bridge in central India where a Hindu pilgrimage was underway.

Officials say the dead are mostly women and children.

Some were crushed to death, while others jumped off the bridge to escape and drowned. Scores more were injured.

Local media said some 500,000 people visited the temple honoring the Hindu mother goddess Durga.
