A month after it was passed, Chico's controversial sit-lie ordinance goes into effect tomorrow.

That means no sitting or lying on sidewalks, curbs or streets adjacent to property zoned for commercial uses between the hours of 7am and 11pm.

Chico Police said punishment for violating the law will be at the discretion of the officer involved.

Violating the sit lie ordinance will result in a $100 citation for the first offense, $200 for the second, and $300 for the third.
