Butte County Public Health has revealed some pretty scary statistics.

Health officials said the number of some sexually transmitted diseases here have nearly doubled since two years ago—and they added that this year is on track to be even worse.

“That tells me that there’s risk out there,” said Butte County Public Health officer Dr. Mark Lundberg.

Despite the increase of STDs, health officials said many people still do not get tested for them.

At Chico State, some students say they aren’t surprised by the statistics.

“It’s known for being a party school,” religious studies junior Anglea Stieber said of Chico State. “And sometimes when people party that ends up with people going home together and not being very careful.”
