The Redding City Council voted 3 to 2 Tuesday night to retain Rick Bosetti as mayor, with council member Francie Sullivan serving as vice mayor.
"When Francie made the nomination, I was surprised. I thought maybe she was going to nominate herself or Missy to be mayor, I had no idea," said Bosetti.
Council member Patrick Jones was one of two votes against the motion.
"I do not support most of the views of council member Sullivan. The vice mayor position is in preparation to be mayor and I don't support that. I don't think it's best for Redding," said Jones.
Jones says that he does support Bosetti as mayor, and ultimately he's happy with the process.
"There should be some diversity within the council, so I don't think when you see a 2-3 vote either way for or against a project or an item or an issue that's necessarily a bad thing. In fact, I think it's more representative of the community and how many people might feel," said Jones.
Now that the appointments are set for the year, both council member Jones and Mayor Bosetti are committed to resolving fiscal issues facing the city, as well as continuing with projects already in the works.
