Rail Work, Detours Continue on Hwy 99 Near Live Oak

Union Pacific is continuing rail work which has closed State Highway 99 at the Lomo Railroad Crossing south of Live Oak, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

The around-the-clock closure is scheduled to remain in effect through Wednesday, May 1. Caltrans is directing traffic on local detours routes. Motorists should allow up to 20 minutes of additional travel time.

During the closure, big rig traffic in the areas of Live Oak, southern Gridley (south of East Gridley Avenue) and northern Yuba City (north of the Highway 99/Highway 20 junction) will be restricted to local deliveries and cargo pick-up only. All other big rigs will be turned around at Highway 99 and Lomo Crossing and directed to take alternative routes such State Highway 70.

Union Pacific is scheduled to replace a 200-foot of track and railroad ties during the Highway 99 closure.

Roadside message boards will post the latest updates. Caltrans urges motorists to use caution in this area and to "Slow for the Cone Zone."
