Budget cuts are taking a toll on the Paradise Fire Department. Both Monday and Tuesday, Fire Station One was the only station in operation for the town. On weather permitting days, only one fire truck, three firefighters, and a battalion chief will be on duty.
Town officials say safety is still the main priority, and a number of factors are looked at before reducing staff for the day. The town still has back up from both Cal Fire and Chico Fire on days where personnel are fewer. Paradise is also in the final stage of sealing a deal with Cal Fire, which contracts the organization to oversee fire personnel services for the town.
