The California Highway Patrol has closed Oro Dam Boulevard East between Glen Drive and Canyon Drive in Oroville due to a fuel spill this afternoon. The roadway will be closed until tomorrow morning.
According to CHP Public Information Officer Todd Irvin, a contractor with the Department of Water Resources (DWR) accidently spilled diesel fuel on the roadway earlier this afternoon. The exact amount of fuel spilled in unknown at this time. The DWR advised CHP of the spill and informed them they had sanded the roadway around 3 p.m. this afternoon.
After conducting a test with one of their CHP vehicles, officers determined the combination of sand and rain made the roadway too slick and unsafe, prompting them to shut down the over two miles of road.
Officials with the DWR were not available for comment.
CHP will assess the roadway sometime tomorrow morning.
