Butte County Public Works has confirmed Oro Dam Boulevard East between Glen and Canyon Drives reopened at 10 a.m. this morning after a contractor with the Department of Water Resources spilled an unknown amount of diesel fuel in the roadway yesterday afternoon.

The roadway reopened after being closed for nearly 19 hours after CHP officers determined the roadway was unsafe with the combination of rain and sand from DWR’s attempt to clean up the spill. The spill was first reported to CHP at approximately 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

It is also unknown at this time if any of the fuel spilled into the Palermo Canal or any other waterways.

DWR has yet to make an official statement regarding the spill.
