Jeffery Menzies, the man found guilty of fatally shooting David Yang in the sniper-styled killing on Humboldt and Bruce Roads in September 2011 has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

According to our reporter at the scene of the sentencing, Menzies did not speak on his own behalf and displayed no emotion during the hearing.

The family of Yang was in court to express their anger and sadness during the victim impact statement. Xong Cha, Yang’s mother, told our reporter after the hearing she have counted the two years and 22 days since her son’s death and its been almost impossible to carry on with life.

“There hasn’t been a day since that I have not been crying,” Cha said.

Deputy District Attorney Mark Murphy stated during the hearing that Menzies didn’t kill yang out of revenge or rage, but that he killed the young man for his own benefit and out of some sense of accomplishment.
