On May 9, 2013 at approximately 4:30 pm the Butte County Sheriff’s Office responded to 1614 Afton Rd in Biggs for a report of a man who had been struck by an airplane. Medical personnel and deputies responded to the scene and discovered that a plane had landed on the private airstrip and struck the now identified Willie Valdez Suarez who was part of a crew that was repaving the airstrip. The location of the incident is a business called Williams AG Service.

Based on the investigation, it appeared that Suarez, who had died prior to the arrival of First Responders, was struck by the propeller of the airplane.

The 66-year-old from Houston, Texas was severely hearing impaired and likely didn't hear the plane landing, according to detectives who spoke with Suarez's family members.

The FAA was notified of the incident for their investigation. The airplane was a fixed wing, single engine turbo prop belonging to Williams AG Service.

CAL-OSHA has been notified of the incident.
