A Shasta Lake man is in the hospital with possible life-threatening injuries after he lost control of his car. It happened around 11:30 Monday night when the 24-year-old driver of a 2004 Honda Accord was driving northbound on I5, just south of Hilltop Drive. For unknown reasons, he turned the wheel of his car and lost control, coming to a rest in a dirt embankment. The car then caught fire, but was put out by a responding officer. The driver made it out of the car thanks to efforts by the officer and paramedics.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and suffers major injuries. He was rushed to Mercy Medical Center. His name has not been released due to the extent of his injuries.
