Today marks the 1st day of Hanukkah and this year is a little more special than others. The start of Hanukkah differs every year based on the Jewish calendar and this year Hanukkah and Thanksgiving will be celebrated together. This won't happen again for another 55 years.
Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the re-dedication of the holy temple in Jerusalem following the Jewish victory over the Greeks. Members of the Jewish community gathered today to celebrate with their families. "Hanukkah is very joyous holiday. It’s for beautiful family time. We all gather around the Menorah. We all light the menorah. Then we celebrate,” said Rabbi Mendy Zwiebel.
Everyone is invited to come to the City Plaza on Tuesday, December 3rd for a menorah lighting. There will be live music, hot latkes, hot drinks, and crafts for kids.
