(UPDATE) 3:43 p.m.- More questions than answers remain in the case of a male body found in advanced decomposition in the Lindo Channel near Cohasset Lane in Chico. The Chico Police Department indicated the investigation is being handled as "a suspicious death."
According to the department’s press release, a citizen called 911 reporting a possible dead body in the channel south of the intersection of Cohasset Road and Cohasset Lane. Upon their arrival at the scene just after 11 a.m., the body of a deceased male was found on the north side of the dry creek bank. Officials at the scene indicated the deceased had been there for “some time” as advanced decomposition had set in. At this time the investigation is being handled as “a suspicious death.”
The department was unable to release any further information. An autopsy will be scheduled sometime next week to determine the cause of death as well as attempt to make a positive identification. At this time the deceased’s identification, age, or ethnicity is not positively known. The department did indicate the individual did not appear to match any current Chico Police missing person cases. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Chico Police Department.
