Chico's "House of Hope" opened its doors for a special event today.
It was a chance for State Senator Jim Nielson and representatives from Congressman Doug LaMalfa's office to tour the house. Currently, there are six women in the home, and all previously came from Sabbath House in Chico. House founders say the house gives women more responsibility, privileges, and life skills.
“My goal for the women…is to find housing, where they can afford it and aren't struggling so they can stay there and not have to come back to the shelter and start over again,” Co-Founder Shelly Watson said. Residents pay a "participation" fee of $250 a month.
Officials expect five to six more women to move in around January, bringing the home to full capacity.
