You may have noticed some delays while driving through Chico lately.
That’s because CalTrans is repairing the Highway 99 southbound on-ramp on East First Avenue.
This is part of a bigger project which includes the expansion of Highway 99 and the reconstruction of two other on-ramps.
The total cost of this project is $34.5 million.
Engineers involved with this project said Chico is growing and needed this construction to properly keep up with the times.
“As I’m sure all Chicoans know it was in pretty bad disrepair,” said Shahna Thomas, CalTrans resident engineer. “This road was built back in the ‘60s, so it was time.”
This on-ramp will be complete by Monday morning. The addition of a third lane to a section of Highway 99 will be complete by summer 2014.
