A 16-year-old girl was released from the hospital today after being struck in the head by a bullet at a residence on China Gulch Drive in Redding during the New Year celebration.
According to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department, the girl was celebrating the New Year with friends and family when they heard numerous gun shots approximately four minutes after midnight. According to the department’s press release, the girl was standing with her parents in the side yard when a projectile hit her in the head causing her to bleed.
As the girl was being examined by medical personnel at a local hospital they discovered a bullet, thought to have been fired from a rifle, was located under her skin on the right side of her head. The press release stated the bullet just missed her skull and was removed from her scalp without major surgery.
She was later released from the hospital. There are no suspects at this time. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.
