With a dry winter and spring and windy weather in recent weeks, local firefighters are staying busy.
In recent weeks Butte County firefighters say they have been called to several escaped agricultural burns.
They say farmers aren't doing anything out of the ordinary but drier than normal grass and high winds are leading to problems.
Throughout the state, firefighters have already extinguished 680 wildfires this year that's about 200 more than is typical for this time of year.
"This year with the conditions that we have had, there are certainly plenty of potential for large fires," Butte County CalFIRE Capt. Matt Damon said.
Starting May first, burn permits will be required for any yard waste burning in Butte, Shasta and Tehama counties.
