UPDATE: According to Chico Police, the driver involved in the utility pole accident at Esplanade and Tonea Way last night has been identified as Luis Valdovino. He was found to be uninjured from the collision. Valdovino was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Saturday evening around 9:15, a man driving a red truck hit a power pole, shearing off the bottom ten feet, leaving it dangling by it's wires.  Chico Fire and police quickly blocked off the area north of Eaton Road on the Esplanade because the wires were live and not structurally supported.  PG&E arrived on the scene to restore power, and the driver was interviewed and arrested at the scene.  Chico police have not released an official statement on the accident, other than to say the area is still blocked off, and drivers should avoid the area for their own safety.  Many residents reported having their power restored by 11:15pm.
