You're never too old, too wacky, or too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child. That's the message behind Read Across America Day, an annual event that coincides with Dr. Seuss's birthday. Friday morning students at Marigold Elementary got a special treat, a visit from Horton and The Cat in the Hat himself. The pair are members of the California Regional Theater Company, which will be putting on a production of "Seussical" this spring, featuring some of the most beloved characters from the Dr. Seuss books.

Brandon Morgan, who plays the Cat in the Hat, says, "It's a lot of fun to get into character and be a totally different person. You get to make the kids laugh and have a good time."

The annual event is also a familiar one for students at Nord Country School. Every year teachers dress up as Thing 1 and Thing 2 to stir up a little mischief. Kelli Ruley, a teacher at Nord Country School, is one of those teachers and says the kids look forward to it every year.

01:40:50 ruley says, "When we're not in the classroom behaving, we are out at recess throwing balls at children from the rooftop, or when the students are all at lunch we go in their classrooms and mess them up."

Many students say they get a big kick out of all the mayhem. Thing 1 and Thing 2 also helped out with another special milestone for the school, the opening of its newest classroom. For whatever reason, Dr. Seuss Day seems to bring out the kid in everyone, and the catchy language in his books is something that grabs the attention of the reader.
