According to Butte County investigators, a man was spotted by two marijuana growers trying to break onto their property on Truex Road near Highway 70, above Lake Oroville Wednesday afternoon. They asked him what he was doing, and he took off running, so they ran after him. He was seen by Butte County Sheriff's deputies running down the middle of Highway 70, and they watched as he forced an approaching car to stop. Deputies say as they chased him, they saw him try to get into the passenger side of the car, which backed up quickly in an effort to get away from him. Deputies ordered the man to stop, but he refused they say, and so they tased him. He was arrested and checked out by medics. Authorities say Darren Jay Holt, 42, of Nevada, had been with two other people in a nearby car. They say the pair was waiting as he tried to steal weed, and they likely fled the scene. Holt will be charged with Resisting and Obstructing an Officer, and Possession of Burglary Tools. Deputies say the growers were doing nothing illegal and they won't be charged.
